Learn

Most folks hit me up for advice via e-mail. While I’m cool with this, I wanted to create a forum for making site suggestions. If there’s a topic you want to learn about but can’t find a post covering it, put your suggestion here and I’ll add it to the queue. I promise to go easy on moderating this area. ;)

    Chris,

Sec 502 covered ipv6 but not really firewalling/restricting of ipv6 nor wire product assesment wrt ipv6. Would be good to see some safe practices around restricting ipv6 (including 6in4 tunnelling teredo etc) until an enterprise “decides” to deploy. (or if i completely missed that section in 502 please point me to the right book ;-) )

    thanks

    Hey jc,

Nope, you didn’t miss it in the 502 material. I was purposely vague as IPv6 is still somewhat in flux. The biggest problem is that “support for IPv6″ means different things to different vendors. There’s no real vetting process.
Actually, your timing is pretty cool. I’ve noticed a lack of really good hands on IPv6 info. Everyone talks in general terms (like my own 502 material), but some actual demo stuff is badly needed. I’ve been bouncing around the idea of an IPv6 section to the site, I just know the research is going to be a real time suck. Let me see if I can address this for you over the next few weeks.

    Thanks!
    Chris

Scott Hogg at rmv6tf.org may be a good resource; he authored the latest Cisco Press book on IPV6 security, and regularly contributes to Network World as a guest columnist. Maybe not vendor-nuetral, but he’s been giving presentations on IPV6 since before it was trendy.

    Chris,

I took SEC502 in 2006 and just Re-Certified. Got the new books and WOW! The material has changed a bit. Many more labs that I’m looking forward to trying out. Thanks for creating this course. It’s been invaluable for me as an infosec pro.
